The Poppy Day Centre

Specially Designed as a safe, warm relaxed and friendly service for people living with moderate to advanced dementia. The service offers secure advance booking. 4 Spacious en-suite bedrooms with full disability accessibility. In addition to these rooms, one of which has a kitchenette, there is an additional assisted bathroom with rise and fall bath and a large lounge dining room with kitchenette. The suite of rooms has access to a secure courtyard garden and to the range of activities on offer at the Humphrey Booth Resource Centre including the Forget Me Not Dementia friendly Café and the Poppy Day service for people living with advanced dementia.

The service exists to provide respite to families supporting people living with Dementia. The suite of rooms newly opened (November 2019) and they are decorated in a contemporary style with full accessibility and the extensive use of unobtrusive assistive technologies. The service forms part of the overall offer at the Humphrey Booth Resource Centre, so that people and their cares can make use of these or stay within the privacy of the service's suite of rooms. The other service on site are the Poppy Day Service which has activities and programmes for people living with advanced dementias. The public Forget Me Not Café which is dementia friendly and hosts dementia friendly activities from Singing Groups, Craft groups to Kurling and Armchair Exercises. There is also an Assistive Technology service with expert advice and many sorts of Tech. to look at.  

The service is for anyone with moderate to advanced dementia of whatever age and whatever other diagnosis such as learning disability or Mental health illness.

The service accepts referrals from any client group over 18 where the main need to be supported is dementia related. The design is contemporary to resemble a modern hotel to appeal to people with "early onset" dementias as well as older age ranges. The design has been assisted by Salford University Dementia hub and allied health professionals. Care has been taken that all the special features and assistive technology compliments the décor and ambience.

The staff are supported by clinical direction from our own nurses and physiotherapists and Aspire works closely with Salford University and Manchester University Nursing, Occupational therapy and Physiotherapy schools through the regular placement of students with us. the staff in addition have training in Positive Behavioural Support to manage difficult behaviours in a bespoke programme.

Though usually the bookings at the service will run "hotel" times "tea time" to after breakfast. People can stay 24 hours or combine a stay with using the Poppy Day service

Anyone can refer to the service. Our team then arrange for an assessment visit to discuss details and form a support plan. The service is designed to support people with advanced dementia so it is unlikely anyone living with a family carer will not be able to be supported.
