Salford City Council Fostering Team

Salford City Council needs foster carers to carers to care for Salford children and young people, supporting them to remain in and near their community of Salford.

This may be temporary, supporting a family through difficult times or something more permanent or a regular arrangement. Fostering can be short term, long term or respite (this may be a set number of days per week, or the same child every six weeks). Based upon your individual circumstances we will support you to consider what best suits you.

We need:

  • Respite carers to support children with disabilities.
  • Respite to support other carers
  • Route 29 Carers who can support children and young people on a temporary pre planned basis. To prevent children and young people coming into care or to support the maintain of their current arrangements.
  • Focus carers – full time carers who have only 1 child in placement with no other children or young people under the age of 21yrs living in the household unless a brother or sister of the child in placement.
  • Short term carers
  • Long term carers – until independence.

Carers are needed from all different backgrounds regardless of ethnicity, culture and identity.

Fostering is open to all, although you will need to have a spare room and be over 21yrs. You can be considered if you work full time part time, unemployed, in receipt of benefits, single, couple, with or without children of your own, LGBTQI+, with or without pets.  Fostering Allowances do not impact on means tested benefits.

For those interested with a spare room and aged 21 yrs or more, we have a Skills to Foster program that will support you to understand what is involved, before making your application.

We pay generous fostering allowances to support you meeting the needs of the children and young people and have a range of support available, including training, support groups, blue light cards, on call service for carers and much more.

If you are interested or have any questions, done hessite to contact the fostering team who will be happy to discuss further with you.
