Co-op Academy Walkden, on Old Clough Lane serves Walkden, Worsley, Linnyshaw, Roe Green, Ellenbrook, and Boothstown.

We have almost 1500 students from 11-16. Our academy focuses on academic success underpinned by outstanding careers support and extra curricular activities, building the whole person. As part of the Co-op Academy Trust, we have strong support and are underpinned by co-operative values.

We have an Enhanced Resource Provision for students with Cognition and Learning Difficulties called The Hive. We have 7 places each year and decisions of who is awarded a place in the Hive is in consultation with the Local Authority. In order to be considered for a place in the Hive, students must have an Education, Health and Care Plan with a primary need of Cognition and Learning.  

Students have the opportunity to access small teaching groups for Maths, English and Humanities at KS3 and Functional Skills Entry Level Maths, English, Science and History at KS4 as well as Btec Pre-Vocational Studies. For all the other subjects, students will join mainstream classes with the support from teaching assistants. 

At Co-op Academy Walkden our aim is to offer students a broad and balanced curriculum and this also applies to students with learning difficulties. We believe that students with learning difficulties should have the same opportunities and experiences as their peers. We ensure appropriate provision is in place to allow students to achieve the best possible outcomes.

When supporting students for preparation for adulthood, students with additional needs are a priority for the academy. Students will meet with the careers advisor in Year 8 which then helps them make an informed decision for KS4 options. More information can be found in our CEIAG Programme. 

At Key stage 4, we offer a Btec Pre-Vocational Course which assists students in preparation for adulthood. Some of the units covered are managing money, running an enterprise, travelling independently etc.
