GPs & Practice Nurses
GPs deal with a whole range of health problems. They also provide health education, offer advice on smoking and diet, run clinics, give vaccinations and carry out simple surgical operations. GPs usually work in practices as part of a team, which includes nurses, healthcare assistants, practice managers, receptionists and other staff. Practices also work closely with other healthcare professionals, such as health visitors, midwives, mental health services and social care services. GPs surgeries can be found locally across Salford. GPs provide care during what are known as core hours from 8.00am to 6.30pm. You can make an appointment with your practice for medical advice, examinations and prescriptions. GPs also provide an out-of-hours service - just ring your normal GP's number. You should make an appointment with your local GP when you have an illness or injury that will not go away.
