The Acorn - Christ Church CE Primary

The Acorn is an Enhanced Resource Provision (ERP) class based within Christ Church CE Primary School which caters for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.  It is based on Nurture Group philosophy.
It is staffed by an experienced teacher and learning support assistants.
6 children can access the class at any one time.
The class is an integral part of the school and children join mainstream activities as part of their daily routines and transition programmes.

The Curriculum

The Local Authority SEND Team consult Christ Church CE Primary for places for a child when they have an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP). The curriculum is based on the Statuary Framework for Early Years and is adapted according to each child’s stage of development.

Each child follows their own programme and their progress is closely monitored through observations and more formal assessments. Targets are shared and reinforced on a daily basis and achievement rewarded.

As children access the class full time, their transition to mainstream is carefully planned: children may join their peer group for lunchtimes, playtime and class trips. As they progress the transition will build on their strengths, allowing them to join classes where they will experience success. Each stage will be monitored and taken at the child’s pace. Children work 1-1, in small groups and as a class depending on the activity.

There is a strong focus on PSHE, nurture, social skills and wellbeing.  This runs alongside academics as we need to ensure children's emotional wellbeing is safe and secure before they can begin accessing learning.

As part of the curriculum in The Acorn children will also take part in activities in the sensory room, cooking and messy play. Don't worry we have aprons!!
