How to talk to children about coronavirus

There is a lot of information about coronavirus in the news. Children and young people will be aware of coronavirus and may be worried about how it will affect their lives. They will look to the adults in their lives for reassurance. It is important that parent/carers and other important adults in their lives remain calm, or children and young people's anxiety may rise. Children and young people need reassurance but also age appropriate factual information about the potential seriousness of the virus and concrete information about how to avoid infection and spread of the disease. Teaching children positive preventive measures, talking with them about their fears, and giving them a sense of some control over their risk of infection can help reduce anxiety.
